Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) is a comprehensive research-based university under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Education of China. As one of the first members of the national “985” Project and “211” Project, it’s also member of the national Double First-Class Initiative, the new Excellence Initiative for Chinese universities.
HUST hosts around 3000 full-time faculty members, more than 1000 of which are professors and 1300 are associate professors. A large number of eminent scientists and professors are gathering here, including 17 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Science and the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
The University has a complete range of disciplines covering engineering, medicine, science, management, economics, literature, etc., and offers a variety of degree programs, including 98 undergraduate programs, 214 master programs, 188 PhD programs, as well as 39 post-doctoral research centers. Altogether, it hosts 55,000 full-time students on campus.
As a research-intensive university, HUST runs four National Research Centers, including Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics, Wuhan National High Magnetic Field Center, the Precision Gravitational Measurement Facility and the National Innovation Institute of Digital Design and Manufacturing, together with a whole batch of other national and provincial key research centers.
The university has ten affiliated hospitals, among which Wuhan Union Hospital and Tongji Hospital stand out as large modern comprehensive hospitals that integrate the functions of medical service, teaching, scientific research and training.
